We turned in our signatures last Wednesday, more than the 1,793 necessary. We thought we were safe, but the Snohomish County Auditor told us shortly after the verification process began on Thursday that many, many of them won’t count. They’ve completed the review and it turns out that we need an additional 537 signatures. The law says once we receive notice (that was today) that we’re short, we’ll have 10 days to get those extra signatures. The deadline is 5 pm, Fri, June 25th. That works out to be 40 signatures per day — it sounds easy, but it won’t be — a lot of folks have already signed.

All of you have expressed support for Mukilteo Initiative No. 2.

We desperately need your help to get these extra 537+ signatures.

Will you please help? Even a few signatures each day from each of you will help enormously. Here is the PDF of the petition. Download it and print out as many copies as you want and start asking Mukilteons to sign.

Here’s what to ask people:

“Hello, are you a Mukilteo voter?” If no say “Thank you” and move on. If yes, hold up the petition so they can look at it while you talk and say “The City Council voted to bring in red-light cameras to Mukilteo, just like the ones they have all over Lynnwood. We’re trying to let the voters decide whether they agree with the decision or not. It just allows a public vote – signing it just gets it on the ballot and lets the voters vote.”

AND JUST BEFORE YOU HAND THEM THE PEN TO SIGN, ASK THEM TO PLEASE TAKE THEIR TIME FILLING IT OUT SO THEIR SIGNATURE WILL COUNT.
